What I want for my Clients

“Financial Success” is a personal concept.  Some view success as affording an extravagant lifestyle.  Others envision success in a more modest context.  Despite these differences, I feel that there are some underlying, foundational components to financial success that I wish my clients to have.

1.     Clients should have a clear picture of where they are right now.  It’s impossible to participate in the race if you don’t know where the starting line is.  How is money earned?  How is it spent?  What does a client own?  What do they owe?

2.     Clients should have an adequate “life-line” of funds available in the event of a temporary set-back.

3.     Clients should know exactly what would happen to their loved ones financially if they were to pass away or become disabled.

4.     Clients should have investments consistent with their tolerance or aversion to risk.

5.     Clients should have a reasonable expectation of what their retirement will look like at a given age.  Furthermore, they should be reassured that they will not outlive their income.

6.     Clients should be able to pursue, within the boundaries of law, a lifestyle of their choosing; living in their ideal home, spending time with loved ones, continuing their education, enjoying hobbies, starting a business, maintaining their identity, dignity, and health, dedicating time to charity, achieving spiritual peace . . .

Success is not achieved overnight.  It can be a journey filled with detours, dead-ends, pitfalls, maybe a few shortcuts, and sometimes new destinations.  But those who have a destination in mind will always walk with greater purpose than those who are always derailed by short-term distractions.

I want all of my clients to meet their financial challenges with confidence.  I want them to be people who like themselves and others around them.  I want them to be happy with the work I do for them.  If they aren’t happy with my work, I have failed, and they have my blessing to work with somebody else.  If they are happy with my work I ask for referrals!
